Others simply have an ipod hooked up ready to go to fill the silence while things get sorted out. A good example of this is the use of Ableton playing audio for American Idol TV show. Some users have a 2nd laptop with the identical set synced to the 1st in case there is a crash so they can continue without the crowd knowing. how does it really handle this type of work out? Users of Ableton when playing live are always encouraged to have a plan B. In terms of crashing, I know there is a possibility of this happening, but I guess my earlier comments about finding actual first hand stories is about actual crashing events. Ableton Live is a good example, the only difference being that it has a grid matrix to arrange your audio for playback for more spontaneity over the traditional linear view for arranging like GB has. This type of thing is done all the time with other software. This is something I'd never do - risk of crashing, see above. you use one track for your live input, while the others are playing back drums, bass etc. Playing live to some pre-recorded tracks, i.e. If you keep your latency low, this should work fine, and I don't see much danger of crashing.Ģ. I.e., not playing back anything but using a track with monitor on for processing your audio. Using GB as an effects processor for guitar or voice. ![]() I haven't used GB live (only for recording), but I would make a difference between two situations:ġ. OK boys and girls, lets try and make some headway here. Do you want to check emails while performing □ (standard procedure regardless of your choice of performance software)Ħ. An MP3 player with back up music for when Murphy's Law comes knocking. Will you need an outboard audio card for your Mic and sends to speakers/PA. How many songs in your set? How many sets? What type of gig - quite in the corner of a restaurant doing some covers or in your face originals?ģ. So the rest will have to be rendered audio or locked SW tracks.Ģ. Fundamentally you are stuck with playing only 1 software instrument at a time. What type of MIDI controller will you use? Do you want to just play keys or do you want to control the transport buttons and perhaps track vol sliders? What about muting tracks? Do you want to use a mouse on stage? You would have to decide how many tracks per song you will need including vocal processing (assuming you want GB to help there). You would have to test your rig out and rehearse a bit before you would come to the conclusion that its not an option.įrom your brief description you would have to consider some of the following (as a start to the discussion)ġ. ![]() There is a decent list of things to consider but I think you could easily use GB to play Live performances of varying degrees. In term of latency, how is GB's latency different from other SW programs when it comes to playing Audio? Where is someone who can speak first hand about having GB crash on them mid set? Certainly stability and latency have never been mentioned except for Chris's comment. Not once has anybody withĪctual experience ever chimed in and shared their success or lack thereof or listed their rig or whatever road blocks they had. ![]() I have been hanging out on this forum coming up 18 months and this topic has come up a few times. This could be a great topic of discussion because I think there is a bit of nonsense floating around about this topic.
